Glenn and I ran at Roebling Road this weekend with the Porsche Club and had a blast tearing it up out there with the Porsche's. My car decided that power steering was optional while I was running my first session. eek.gif I almost went off but I saved it and limped to the pits. I couldn't find a replacement pump anywhere in Savannah so Glenn graciously offered me his car. I just wanted to say thanks again Glenn. thumbsup.gif beer_buds.gif

Now that I've had a chance to drive my competitions car I may have to rethink this whole jump to GTR. banghead.gif smilielol.gif Just kidding I'm looking forward to seeing if I can end that winning streak.

Nah, you just need more power driving.gif

Are you running a PS cooler? I can boil the PS fluid in my car after 3-4 back to back autocross runs so I'd imagine 20min track sessions are much worse. I actually have one sitting in a box here but I've been too lazy to put it on.

No I don't have a cooler so that is in my immediate future after this episode. I boiled the fluid and that's what caused it but I must have had some air trapped in the system because it kept acting up as I would drive around the paddock and on the way back to the hotel Saturday night. It was OK today but I didn't dare try it on the track. I'm probably going to do a Turn One power steering pump at the same time just for good measure.

I lost power steering in turn 5 which is thankfully one of the slower turns. If it had happened in one of the faster turns it could have been ugly. blink.gif

Jeff, like I said, if my car had problems I know you would have shared yours too. biggrin.gif thumbsup.gif
Thanks for turning me on to the PCA event at Roebling Road, I really had a blast! Too bad you didn't stay for the last track session, I bet half the cars were gone by then and I was able to run WFO for practically the whole session. I did manage to find the shortcomings in my suspension setup for high speed use. I was literally cooking my back tires. Fronts were great, no push at all, but the back overheated and went away. I guess I will have to try a different setting on the rear ASB next time. Yeah, that's right, I said next time, I want to go do it again! Oh yeah, with better tires next time too.

I just wanted to add something, Jeff. You looked pretty doggone good out there this afternoon passing dern near everything in sight. It looked like you had fun once you got comfortable with that old #209. driving.gif

Hey Jeff, I just realized something, I think I brought home more rubber on those tires than I had before we ran them!

In hind sight that is what I was experiencing when I was saying that the tires were going away. I wasn't overheating the fronts but the rears would go away and the car would get loose. I couldn't apply any amount of power until I was unwinding the wheel on track out.
Glenn
That's exactly how it was with me too. Hmm, I wonder if maybe I needed more air in the rears. They kept pumping up but the fronts stayed where I set them. It could also be that I had the rear ASB set too stiff, with more air they should roll over less and not heat up and with a softer setting on the ASB it should increase grip. I had it set where it worked great on AX courses but I suppose that was all wrong for Roebling Road.

Did it almost feel like the rears, especially the left rear was rolling over in turns? That was the feeling I was getting, maybe is was just slippage but it felt really funny to me.

Of course you know what this means don't you? It means I have to go back to Roebling Road to test out my theory. biggrin.gif

Sounds like a cool event. I'd like to know more about it. What's the track like? What kind of format do you run in? How much does it cost? Where is it? Those kind of things, and please throw in any other useful information. I'm interested in trying it out in the future. I'm very anxious to try out my new suspension on an RC.

Here you go Steve, bookmark this page. PM me your email addy and I can send you a copy of the rules and some other stuff.

I couldn't tell you whether it was rolling over or just loosing traction. I think it was just loosing traction though since the car still seemed to turn in OK but I couldn't get any exit speed as even small amounts of power was too much until well after the apex. Still a lot of fun and faster than most of the high dollar iron running around out there. tongue.gif

The track is a two mile circuit with nine turns and has some technical aspects but is fairly easy to drive. There are five run groups which are based totally upon your experience level. You'll be grouped with drivers of similar experience level so you're not getting run over by really fast drivers. The sessions are 20 minutes long and you get four per day except for the novice drivers that miss one on Saturday due to a classroom session. An instructor will be riding along and they are generally very helpful at teaching you the line. Passing is limited to designated areas and the driver being passed must first signal the car behind by pointing left or right letting the other driver know which side to pass on.

The track is located close to Savannah which is about a 4 1/2 drive from Orlando. The cost is $225 for both days and there is no additional charge for the instructor. The next event is probably going to be on April 16th & 17th. Just keep an eye on the web site.
