Fab Five vies for Fantasia championship on cold Florida night
Thursday February 10, 2005

Lake Buena Vista - Tonight at the Fantasia Fairways mini-golf turf course, top tour players from the Martin Sports Car Club Mini-Golf Series (MSCCMGS) braved cold blustery winds to make battle of ball hitting and general trash talk. Heck, even Matt Ferratusco had a great game, but we're spoiling the end...

At hole number 1 Jason Young jumped to an early lead with an under par 2. Everyone else fared poorly, with Gerardo Bonilla and Gina Young both maxing out with 6 (Gina was on the cell phone with her golf coach). On hole #2, Mark Stockbridge and Gerardo made clear their intentions to win by both sinking a hole-in-one. High fives all around. Sadly for Mark, it was just a fluke as he went 6-6 on his next two holes. The collapse-a-thon would continue, as Jason Young, the early leader by as many as four strokes would begin his march to the back with a 6-5-6 run.

By a stroke of mental telepathy from golf mentors all around the world, Matt Ferratusco began to steal the spotlight by playing his best run of mini-golf ever. He shot a 3-4-3-2-4 run, a very low average compared his recent history. Would he place high in the order this time around?

Meanwhile, Gina Young and Gerardo Bonilla were making quiet progress to the front of the pack. Gina held 2nd place overall by hole #9, and regained 2nd again at hole #14 as Gerardo quietly led, well, that is except when Mark Stockbridge made an error, causing Gerardo to roar with satisfaction.

As the last few holes began to wind down, 2nd place was traded between Matt Ferra-too-slow, Marky Mark Stockbridge, and Gina Young. Jason tried to regroup with a 3-3-3 run, but fell victim to a 6-6 streak. As the last hole came, Gerardo was sitting well on the lead watching the 2nd place battle unfold. As it was, on the last hole, Matt, Mark, and Gina TIED for 2nd place after Mark missed an easy 6 inch putt for an outright 2nd place. Doh!!!

Final Scores
Gerardo Bonilla - 66
Matt Ferratusco - 73
Mark Stockbridge - 73
Gina Young - 73
Jason Young - 76

next time you guys play real golf give me a call. I used to play on the high school team so I'm not to embarrasing these days. I think I shot a low 80 last time I played.

We've got a couple late 70's volvo's without engines sitting on the lot I'd happily play using their pink slip.

Actually Fantasia Fairways is not your typical mini golf course. It's true miniature Golf, as in sand traps, hills, etc. At Hole 18, the hole is 100 feet away from where you putt. You can't even see many of the holes from where you putt so they have flags. It's really cool, and really challenging. If you like real golf, you'll like this. Last night was the first time I've ever shot under 80 there. first.gif
