Matt, I'm assuming by your comments you believe Chin are "over" proponents of the late apex? In my viewing, I did notice their TIPs were very deep. Or are you suggesting that they aren't teaching trail braking, and with trail braking you don't want to late apex as much?

Anxiously waiting your valued opinions smile.gif.

All in all I thought you looked good but I'm curious to see what Matt thinks. I'll throw myself into the fire here and post one of my own from that event as well. Here is just a single lap so it's only 10 megs and everyone one will enjoy the delicate way in which I took the "Safety Pin" in this one. blink.gif

Chin's focus is on providing a fun and safe way for anyone to get on track. Appropriately, they teach the safe way around the track, rather than the fastest way, because they're not focused on making professional racecar drivers out of anyone. As such, they teach late turn-in and late apexing. This technique allows a safety margin at corner exit, as you have space available and the car isn't loaded as much as you exit. I've seen other in-car videos from Chin track days and I want to scream! I've also perused their instructor manual that states everything I've just written. It works great for what they do, and their insurance policy. smile.gif

The good thing is the late turn-in method is the best way to approach any racetrack as you try to find the fastest way around. It's far better to have extra track available than not enough. If you find the wheel is straight before you exit the corner, or if you have track available at the exit, start moving your turn-in point up a few feet, maybe 5 feet per lap. Remember, at speed, 5 feet feels more like 5 inches.

I began the download when I left my house, but the connection was cut shortly after when my computer went into hibernate. I forgot to put the battery back in after the storm. oops.gif Round 2, here we go! (I'll be back in 2 hours...dial-up)

Not sure what's wrong, but the download completed after just 1 MB and only 5 seconds of the video. ??

I am not sure what may be wrong but I will recreate the video in a smaller size. Thanks for trying to download.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.

That would be great. I'll download the smaller version.

Strange, I'm still having problems downloading the video. This time I got the first lap until the hairpin, then it cut off. Can you email the smaller version to me? mferratusco@aol.com

It's difficult to hear your throttle in T1, so I can't tell exactly what you're doing there. Most importantly, you'll want to be off the brakes and back on throttle just before you turn-in. It looks like the nose of your car rises just before you turn, indicating you were correctly back to power (btp). Maintain steady throttle to the apex and start to squeeze power from there, unwinding your hands to the exit.

Turn 3 is where we begin to see the Chin style of late turn-in. It repeats in the carousel and again in the hairpin. With their turn-in cones, they force you to turn at the last possible second, therefore causing you to turn far too abruptly. Begin your turn-in before their cones, maybe 10 feet at most. This will allow you to turn slower and smoother.

Same thing in the carousel. Turn sooner so that you can turn slower and smoother.

Under braking for the hairpin, you're adding and releasing brake pressure more than necessary, as seen by the rise and dive of your car's nose. Find that hard spot in the brake pedal to get to threshold. If you lock up, release some tension in your legs muscles, and be sure not to pull your leg or foot back. Strive for smooth brake modulation, and only if it's necessary (i.e. lock-up). And just like T3 and T5, turn sooner. Their turn-in cone is about 5 miles late!

That's all the video I can see. Overall you look good. Your abrupt turn-in is causing mild understeer through each corner. Work toward a smoother, slower, more progressive turn-in, which will only be achieved by turning sooner.

If you can email the complete video to me I should be able to see more. smile.gif

I'll never understand people like you.

It was a joke. EV-DO is brand new technology and runs double what high-speed AOL runs. Considering cable internet service has not gotten any cheaper for the last 5 years, EV-DO will probably follow suit. thumbsup.gif
