Looks to me that there are only two entires into SM at Hunstville. So, my question is since I know locally we bump classes, do they do this at the National Tours?

Jose, I don't believe that they bump at the National Level. Especially since you do have one competitor. My suggestion, beat him, then you can tell everyone that you won your class at a national event!!! You don't have to tell them that there was only one other person!!

Agreed on that point! But I was still curious.

There is no bumping for a tour---
but you need 5 to qualify for Hoosier tires----
when you check in on Friday, and you still don't make a class---then bump yourself to SM2

He would actually bump to a Mod class I believe. I don't think you can bump from SM to SM2.
I say, go where you want. If you are in it for tires then bumping yourself would be necessary. If you want the plaque on the wall saying you won a Tour event, then stay where you are.

Well, considering the price of tires......I'm in it for both.....but mainly the tires!! My thing is doing the right thing given the situation. I'm still new to this "legal" side of the sport and so I ask the experienced fellas.

Well, there is definitely precedent for a SM driver to voluntarily bump themselves to SM2 at a national level - I know it happened at at least one west coast event already this year. Atwater NT, I think.
And 16.C.2.b says that included in SM2 are: "All SM eligible sedans/coupes excluded from SM for failure to meet weight requirements." So I wouldn't think there would be a problem with him running SM2 even if you can meet SM's weight requirements. Maybe check with Doug Gill at SCCA for a more official answer though?

Reply from Mr. Gill himself, "Hi, Jose,
Bumping is only a Regional procedure and is not done at Divisional or
National SCCA Solo events. Even if there is only 1 car in a class, that
class will be run without any bumping.
SM-eligible vehicles are also eligible to participate in SM2 per
Appendix A - Automobile Classes of the Solo Rules (page 178). So you're
welcome to enter your WRX in SM2 class.
Hope this helps.

Jose,
Do you need a tire warmer?

Well switching to SM2 is basically useless because there are only two competitors there too!!!! ARGH, I stay in SM then and collect my trophy.

The car may also be eligible for FP and EM. Depending on how fast you think the competitors in those classes may be...

The new contingency requirements for Hoosier only require three competitors in a class.

Hey guys, dont mean to high jack a thread, but on the subject of the Hoosier tires....
Shane and I ran Hoosiers at Dixie and had stickers etc. We only had 3 in class in ESP, but we came in 1st and 2nd respectively...we signed up on the SCCA website also as hoosier being our contingency, (during registration) but we just now filled out the form that was posted by Rick. ( we were able to apply some Hoosier stickers thanks to Pete Lier who had a bunch ).
I am going to try to call and see if we are still eligible, what do you guys think, think we are screwed unless we filled out the online form before the tour? ( Dixie)

I believe Hoosier states that you had to be registered before the event to be eligible. Not 100% sure since I just signed up for their contingency but I think that is how it works.

funny thing is that they state that you'll get stickers and such, I've never gotten a thing!!!
I've sent an email to Hoosier, hopefully I'll get an answer. If not I'm calling them.

Stickers from hoosier are here. The oil cooler is finished. I have to re-do one of the oil cooler lines as it's about 1.5" too long. No biggy, just have to drain the oil from the cooler. Total capacity is now 7quarts.
Ordering new tires for the event. The interior is back in the car and secured. Next is to finalize my install of the aftermarket(Neetronics DCCD Controller) center diff. control. I've installed in the center trim where the ash tray once was.
Lastly is to double check the alignment settings. Finally, clean and polish car.
