Thank you all yesterday for my first autocross event, special thx to George, Jeff and Chuck! And also sorry for the first run in the camaro, it really was a handfull opps! but it got better through the day, i think with less of a heavy foot and racing tires it might have been even better? Anyway the car is now sold so i will find something more suitable, but definately something old and classic as thats what i deal in.Thank you all very much Mark.

Mark - welcome to the forum. Yeah - your first run was a bit 'loose' shall we say? Your runs did improve as the day went along.
You sold the camaro? -- do you buy and sell cars for a living? do you have a website?

Your very welcome Mark and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. That beast looked like any throttle input would just spin the tires and kick the back end out. Hope to see you out there in some more classic cars that would be cool.

Mark, you got my attention before you even fired it up. I grew up working on, in, around my step-dad's '68 Camaro. He only did quarter mile stuff, which seemed a lot more suited for that beast. It was great having you out there. Be warned, once you catch the AX bug it's hard to stop!

Welcome Mark. You have me curious. How 'bout telling those of us who weren't there what kind of car you were driving.

From some inside info I have - it was fuel injected with about 450 horses under the hood!

Hi Jeff what do you think a good autocrosser? got a 70 cutlass convertible coming today, now that should be fun as well. thx mark

My first car was a 1970 Cutlass hard top and that thing was a pig. It didn't have any sway bars from the factory and I think it was four wheel drums if I remember correctly. After a year I sold it and got a 1971 GTO with "Radial Tuned Suspension" and I couldn't believe the difference in handling between the two cars. So no I don't think the Cutlass is a good car for autocross.
If you want to stick with a muscle car I think the Camaro, Firebird or Mustang is probably a good platform. That 68 Camaro was obviously set up for drag racing with traction bars, super low gearing, tons of horsepower and what I suspect was a welded or locked rear end. In stock form they didn't handle too bad and there is a ton of after market stuff available for them.

A guy that I race with used to race a 70 Cutlass Convertable. He said it was a handfull (duh!) But it was great fun to watch. Now he drives a 96 BMW 328. Not nearly as much fun.

Hi Todd Yeah! there nothing like a big V8, but this car needs to be restored although its not a bad car, so it will be for sale, it will go on ebay in the next few days, the thing that amazed me on Sunday was how the modern cars can put all that power on the tarmac and handle so well, poor old camaro strictly for the dragstrip i think. thx Mark
