Do we have any local dealers who give discounts on new tires for Martin or SCCA members, etc? An acquaintance got a group buy discount through his local Discount Tire... just wondering if we have anything like that local.

what i usually do for racer is that i give the tire at my cost just charge mount and balance, but than again there isnt much mark up on tires for exsample my wholesale prices from tire rack are only $3-10 dollar cheap than their retail prices depending on the tire

By the time you factor in Tax... there is no wholesale discount.

Yeah, but then you pay for shipping if you order it from somewhere out of state. Sorta evens out in the end.

We have had some discussions with a specific discount tire that is willing to give us 10% at that particular store, for advertising in the Patter. We would have to have membership cards like we did a few years ago. I'll let you know.

I received a call back from a guy named Steve who is the Discount Tire online sales rep for the Orlando area. He said he was familiar with the SCCA and MSCC groups and I could just place the order through him and tell him which store I wanted the mounting done. $225 for a 315 NT-05 would include all the warranty options, but exclude $15/tire mounting/balancing and miscellaneous fees. It doesn't do me any good to order mailorder from them because I'd have to pay both shipping and tax. Someone on another forum indicated they had a group buy on those tires and received their 315's @$183.
I never bought the road hazard and other fluff they sell and looking back it would have been a waste of money the past 12 years as I never would have had to use it. I just want them to give best price on the tires, plus mounting/balancing, tax, and other required fees. Don't like it when they mask the price of the tire by adding in the fluff to pad the tire price... and that's why I've never purchased from Discount Tire in the past. Plus, just because their 17-19 year old's having been mounting/balancing tires all day for 6-9 months doesn't necessarily mean they take pride in their work. Had numerous problems with damaged rims from them.

Notice the DISCOUNT TIRE logo on our back quarter panels? Our local Discount tire store, which Fidel is the Group manager, has decided to help us out with our mounting and balancing. They were always very fair with Dad when he would take the Miata wheels to have the Hoosiers mounted on them. They do alot of H-P type tire mounting, do alot for other local racers. they told Dad that Hoosier didn't give them a reasonable discount, so they weren't able to offer a good price for American made race rubber, but they would be glad to help us with the mount and balance. No problems. even though we get 'freebees' Dad always tips the installer----they seem to respond well to the practice.

I know Kevin is a fan and I like the Waterford Discount Tire. They've always treated me fairly on street tires and have dismounted some tires for free. I've only had them mount 1 set of R comps and I forget the cost but it wasn't bad, I don't get the R comps balanced so its mounting only. I just don't think there's much wiggle room on pricing other than labor.

You should try it because balancing is good for about .5 seconds! And that's per tire. That's why I even balance my spare.

Even better, get them roadforce balanced with nitrogen instead of air. 1 second per tire easy. I heard that from a guy who's friends with another guy who has a 2nd cousin who works at Tire Kingdom that drives a lowered Civic with a wing so it must be true!

Going back a few years, I think the local store by me changed and they really started to rip you off. However, managers change, people move. I know someone at one of the stores, and if they are really trying to pump up the sales numbers for a particular month, you can get a great deal. I have new tires sitting waiting for me to get mounted. I did get a really good deal on them, but like Travis said, Hoosiers they can not do that with. I had to sacrafice and just get another set of 710's. (Which I won't mount until after the december event incase I get the tranny fixed before then.)

I almost don't know where to start with this, but here goes nothing. I have been an authorized Tire Rack installer for about 10 years, look me up on their site and you can check my reviews [ enter 32763 zipcode ]. If you want to avoid sales tax, buy em from them, I don't have a problem putting them together. For club members, Martin or SCCA, I will do a roadforce mount and balance for what most of the other guys charge for a simple mount/balance. That said, if you have someone who is willing to do it for free by all means take advantage of it. I don't work for free and don't know of too many people who do. As far as tires and wheels go, I try my best to sell these items to club members right above cost, I am in business to try and make a buck and I'd like to be able to pay the light bill each month. I am also an authorized Hoosier dealer and have been for the last 5 years at this location and 4 years before that at our previous store. Alignments - we do both street and track alignments as well as cornerweighting. Track stuff is done with you sitting in the car or if you drop it off with the appropriate amount of weight in the drivers seat. We also do all minor and major repairs as well as diesel work on all you guys with diesel tow rigs [my tech is a diesel expert]. I also have a fender lip roller which I will rent out cheap to members if you want to try your hand at it. Now I know I'm not down the street from everybody's house but I'm in Orange City for crying out loud not Jacksonville. If anybody has any questions PLEASE CALL ME. I look at this forum every now and then just to see what's going on consequently if you post something for me I may not read it until several days later. 2.5 seconds total with the spare. I like it. If on top of everything else I have a can of fix a flat balanced will that get me three seconds?
My street tires are balanced does that save me any time when I have the R comps on the car or is it only the tires on the car that matter?

Helium works better, greatly reduces unsprung weight and at the end of the day you can breathe some in talk funny. Works great with the ladies.

I haven't ever had Steve work on my car. I will say he's a stand up guy and give a personal reference. I seem to continually buy used wheels with slightly used tires.
Steve, since you're not on the forum much and don't know who this is, its Glen.

I'll second that!
The only down side is Steve made me spend alot of money this past week after he showed me just how worn out the suspension is on my BMW! I guess its bad when you can move the front wheel and inch back and forth with the car on the ground using just your bare hands....

Sorry to dig up this thread that's a month old but I highly recommend going to Steve for all your needs. Top of the line hunter digital camera alignment equipment, roadforce balancing, lots of patience, attention to detail, works with your needs, and everyone there is really nice.
I took the E30 up there right before the pointless event. He thought I was the typical "toe and go" but I ambushed him right before closing with adjustable everything and an alignment so outta whack (from my recent suspension/wheel/tire change) it'd make your head spin. He and Bobby were patient, didn't rush things, and took extra time to get me hooked up with a desirable auto-x setup. His recommendations were perfect and the car is a totally different animal now. Now I just need to learn how to drive it again!
My only disappointment is the fact that I didn't make the trip up there sooner. The fact that it is roughly 25 miles from me put me off initially, but it was worth every penny and every drop of gas.
Top notch. 'Nuff said.
